Diego and I met

at an Institute Dance in October 2008. As we danced, we discovered that we had been missionaries in the same mission. (He made me repeat myself three or four times just to be sure he'd heard me correctly.) He asked for my number when the song ended, and then added me as a friend on FB that night after the dance. And then I didn't hear from him again....

In February of 2009, just before Valentine's Day, I was wasting time on FB, and he randomly opened a chat with me. He asked me out, and I gave him my availability (just after Valentine's Day, because I thought it would be too chancy and awkward to have a first date with anyone on Valentine's Day). We had fun together, and I was really attracted to him and his goofy personality. A couple weeks later, we were dating officially.

And then I panicked. Something felt wrong, and I thought he wasn't what I was looking for, so I bailed out of the relationship. We "kept in touch" as acquaintances, going out once every four to six months. I couldn't forget about him and the fun times we had shared, but I could never quite get the feeling that I should try a relationship with him again.

In November of 2010, while Diego was in Florida and I was in Provo, he sent me a text message out of the blue. I had just been talking about him to a friend of mine about the things that I had really like about Diego when we had dated before; it seemed like such a crazy coincidence that he had also been thinking of me that same afternoon! I wanted to go out with him again to see if anything had changed between us, but obviously he was too far away for that. We talked online every few days, but I couldn't tell if he was interested in giving me another chance at a relationship. It sure seemed like he wasn't interested, actually. Meanwhile, I was offered a chance to move to Texas for a while. That offer was a welcome change from my Provo life which seemed to be going nowhere fast. Since I didn't think Diego would want to date me again when he moved back from Florida, I decided to see if Texas had a man for me. Boy was Diego disappointed when he moved back from Florida in December and learned that I was leaving within a week!

Even though I had moved away, he didn't let me get be a stranger. We talked online EVERY night for hours, and found that we had both changed in a lot of important ways. Though we couldn't technically go out on dates, we decided to begin dating again in January 2011. He went to visit me twice while I was in Texas, and I was able to return to Provo once to visit him, as well.

This time dating, the timing and the feelings were all right, and Diego proposed to me at the end of March. I said "YES!!" We will seal the deal by being married in August 2011. I am so very much in love with Diego!
